Adware VPN slows internet speed.

I have installed the Adware VPN software and if I activate the VPN my internet speed drops by a little more than 30%. I have used a few different speed tests and all have similar results. If I don't use the VPN my internet speed returns to normal. Does anyone have any suggestions please.
