False Positive AdAware impairing download of file
Hi,
I submitted a false positive report on this website but have heard nothing back, so am taking to this forum for assistance.
I work for the Mansion Group of licensed & regulated online casinos. Our websites have a .exe file (the online casino software) that can be downloaded by customers in order to play our games. We do not spam, or partake in unsolicited marketing, or any of these kinds of activities that "Ad-Aware" is defending the world against.
We have a process where our QA team periodically tests our websites and download files with the leading anti virus software enabled in order to test for false positive detections, as these are a constant source of difficulty for us, as they (ultimately without justification) block our download files or access to our registration pages, which has a negative effect on our conversions.
Ad-Aware is part of our testing routine as it is a popular, free AV product.
The problem we have noticed is that, when Ad-Aware is running, the following websites are affected: club777.com, slotsheaven.com, lesacasino.com and mansioncasino.com.
The download process, which normally takes about 1 minute to complete, now takes 6-8minutes. Also, the download progress window is forced to the background and cannot be viewed until the download is completed. The second Ad-Aware is disabled, normal service is resumed.
The pages where the download is accessed from are:
http://www.club777.com/download/
http://www.mansioncasino.com/download/
http://www.lesacasino.com/download/
http://www.slotsheaven.com/download/
Grateful for the forum's assistance in removing/disabling whatever Ad-Aware is doing to our download page / process.
Many thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I wasn't able to recreate any of the things you experienced. Can you send me the steps to reproduce? It would be helpful if you could provide as much detail as you can.
Below are some brief notes describing the URLs and files I encountered. I found two URLs in our DB from 2013, but they've now been removed.

Hi Andy,
thanks.
And the download was relatively speedy? thanks

Hi,
The downloads have been tested and timed:
Client with Ad-aware/ Without Ad-aware
CC 73s / 60s
MC 139s / 65s
LC 106s / 70s
C7 104s / 85s
SH 110s / 80s
These differences are not as big as I was initially advised, however there is a difference.
Is this just the fact that Ad-Aware is scanning the download file that causes this delay of between 15-70 seconds? Is there anything that can be done about it?
Thanks again
Chris

Yes. I didn't see any difference in download speed when Ad-Aware was installed and not installed.

Yes I understand that enabling an AV software is a choice taken with the knowledge that it may scan download files and web pages, thus increasing loading/wait time.
thanks

Hi Chris,

I can't comment on the length of download time recorded in your test, but essentially, yes, Ad-Aware checks downloading files.
Is there anything that can be done about it?
There are no immediate plans to review how Ad-Aware handles incoming files but if it becomes problematic/important enough to our users, yes, we will certainly look at it.
