    Hello,

I have the same problem - when I run the Ad-Aware Web Installer, it installs an updater, gets stuck at "Installing updater done" and then displays the error.

I attached my system information. I also attached an AdAwareUpdater.exe Crash Dump File I found in the AppData\Local\CrashDumps folder, in case it helps.

    Hi lankuzek,

Thank you for the information and the uploaded files. I will inform my contact person at Lavasoft.

    Still cannot install

I found some logs in C:\ProgramData\adaware\adaware antivirus\Logs, hope they'll help you.

The updater gets installed successfully at C:\Program Files\Common Files\adaware, but it seems that AdAwareUpdater.exe then fails to run.

Thanks, please try to disable Windows Defender before installing adaware, as Phenom-X wrote in post #13.

Disabled Defender's real-time protection, no success. Stopped the service in the Service Manager, still no success. I'm using Windows 7, where Defender is not an antivirus but only antispyware, so it might be different for me.

I'll do some more experimenting and let you know if I have any success.

Do you have a slow or unreliable internet connection or an old and slow computer?

Does the program run again If you start it after the crash?

My internet connection is quite good. The computer I can't install Ad-Aware on is not exactly new, but it still works good enough (3 GB RAM, 2.20 GHz CPU). I know it has outdated graphics hardware and that some programs sometimes fail to run because of that - does the installer use some modern graphich that fails to run on older computers? It runs Windows 7 32-bit (is 32-bit Windows even supported?).

Do you know which processor you have more exactly or if has two or more cores (dual or quad core)?

I wonder since 2.2 GHz can be both old bad processors and rather new ones.

Seems to be very strange if the installer would use the graphic hardware and 32-bit Windows should still be supported.

I'm moving your posts and my replies to a separate topic to make it easier to investigate the different installation problems.

    My processor is: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+

I think all data is available in the system info file I attached to post #3.

Success, at last! After a number of unsuccessful tries, the AdAwareUpdater window finally came up after I disabled my display adapter in Device Manager (ATI Radeon Xpress 1150). I knew it had something to do with graphics ...

I hope you'll be able to fix this now, because I'm also unable to display the UI (AdAwareDesktop) without disabling the adapter. If you need any more information, feel free to ask

Sorry, but the system information file isn't readable. Please try again.

Is this a virtual machine or a real computer?

    It's a real computer.

My MsInfo32 for some reason creates unreadable files, so I exported the information as TXT.

No, it still doesn't work except if I disable the graphics driver. I have attached my system info file and a log which is created when you try to open the window (AdAwareDesktop.exe).

Please, attach the Adaware folders too, see http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/34672-how-to-report-a-bug/

Uninstalled Beta 4 and installed Beta 5, no diference. It still crashes before the interface appears.

I have noticed that if I disable my display driver, start the UI and enable the driver again, I have no problems with using the interface until I close it. That means that something is only wrong with the startup procedure. AdAwareDesktop's performance is far from optimal anyway (needs about 5 seconds to start up and consumes 70 MB of RAM though the interface is simple), so please tackle the problem soon.

Sorry for not responding. Here's my AdAware folder from C:\ProgramData: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t8irl8nscg0zbiw/adaware%20antivirus.zip

    (I have excluded msi_cache\...\AdAwareInstaller.msi as it's 78 MB big.)

Lavasoft thinks that you haven't installed all Windows updates and that can cause the problem. If that doesn't help, they want a new crash dump file as the one in post #1.

I don't think the problem's not Windows update-related. Updates available for my computer:

Sorry, there are no dumps in the Crash Dumps folder anymore.

    Thank you for your support!

Thank you for your help finding bugs in Adaware

Can you enable the display driver and then get a crash dump file?

Lavasoft thanks you for the information but would appreciate a crash dump file.

I'm really sorry, but no matter what I do, no crash dumps are produced. The first one was created when running AdAwareDesktop.exe from the Beta 1 installer. Any hints how to produce it? (My display driver is always on, otherwise my screen resolution is 1024x768 )

Do you mean that when the following occurs no crash dump is created?

Yes. No matter what I run - the interface (AdAwareDesktop), installer (AdAwareUpdater from beta 5) ... - the AppData\Local\CrashDumps folder remains empty. (There are two other folders in %localappdata%, and I attached them in case they're useful.)
