Im having the exactl same problem. Freezes when running a full scan, but is fine during a smart scan
Here is a screenshot of where its frozen.
I had this problem quite recently, and uninstalled it, and reinstalled, and thought everything was fine, but its clearly not.
Anyone know whats causing it? Spybot maybe?
Just to add, I have the following installed.
SpyBot
AVG 8 Free Edition
Spywareblaster
I have noticed that when I now open Spybot, i get this warning..

Hi Tim, welcome to the forums! I do not have Norton, so can't help with regards to that. i have AVG 8, and SpyBot, as well as Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 free.Firstly, uninstall Ad-Aware, then delete the lavasoft folders in Program files, and Program data (Vista only).
Then run cCleaner (Free downloaded registry cleaner tool)
Reboot pc/laptop
Then, download Ad-Aware from here...
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&...iDLiUp7NqzWinhA
Install it. Let it install the 5 default downloads.
Then once finished, close the application.
Launch it again, and then click web update, and update its definitions.
Then run a full scan, and let us know how you get on.
Dear GSi-R
I did what you suggested but it froze again at more or less the same place on the full scan. However it does get through a smart scan. So until there is some sort of fix I will just leave it and run smart scan. Later on I'll delete it and re-install it and see if somehow this problem has been fixed in the meantime.
Thanks again
Tim

Update.
I have again, uninstalled Ad-Aware 2008, this time, removing the folder "Lavasoft" from Program Files, and the folder "Lavasoft" from App Files (Vista users).
Downloaded AAW2008 once more, and installed it. I updated the definitions successfully, and Im now running a full scan again.
Will report back shortly.

Update #2
Full Scan completed successfully.
Anyone having similar issues, i suggest you do what i did, particularly if your using Vista.

That's why we repeat deleting those files over and over to every one. If you take a look at posts in these forums I guarentee you all the helpers say the same thing to everyone.
The reason why is if the download is corrupted those files could be to. So we tell ya'll to delete them and install again. But your computers security needs to be down for the entire time. even the download.
Glad you got it going
JGH,
Have you done what I stated up there. It's the same thing we tell everone. You have to go through the basics first before we can determine something else is causing the problem.
"I dont think this it, but its worth a shot. Goto the LS download page again, but choose another site. I prefer hnet one (usually in the second row down),I have had a few people have success with it. Shutdown everybit of symantec, windows defender, windows firewall, and whatever other protection you might remember and save it to your desktop. Then run it as an administrator when it finishes, reboot, then update. Just a thought when you shutdown symantic make it where it doesnt start with a reboot.
Then go ahead and run a scan. This way if it completes and you turn symantic back on and it doesnt complete a scan, you know what is causing it."

Yes, but the thing is, what i did the other day, was to remove everything, uninstall ad-aware, then delete lavasoft folders, then i reinstalled the already downloaded aaw2008, but it froze again.
The difference today was I downloaded a fresh aaw2008 from download.com

That's what I meant there, I've typed it so many times I thought I typed to download it. I'm glad you figured it out and decided to do a fresh download.
Alot of times the security programs firewall,av, spyware while scanning the data steams can corrupt the download not just the install. Hence that is why we have everyone do it all over again. The guide I was talking about will explain this stuff and make it easier for users to not only do the process of doing everything, but understand why to.

Update #1a
Removed everything once again, but this time, installed AAW2008 in Administrator username, then upon installation, rebooted, opened in Normal user account, ran full scan, and it completed perfectly.
Will report again should anything happen again.

Update #1b
Thought everything was going fine, managed two full scans without fault, then today, updated definitions, and proceeded to a full scan, and it froze again.
There is clearly something wrong here.
Any tips?

Update #1c
Having now run a CHKDISK scan, in the hope this would cure my AWW2008 freezing, it has not. Its just this minute froze again during a full scan. Im running out of ideas now.

What part of the scan does it freeze at?
Is it the same place?
And as far as the spybot search and destroy message. Its been around for ages however it seems to pop up at weird times. Its nothing to worry about i run both with out problems.

It freezes randomly, not at the same place each time.
I have downloaded it for the third time now, so fingers crossed. Running a full scan as I type.
Will update when done.

Update #1d
Full scan completed..
Just to note, I have previously managed to get 2 full scans to complete, but upon the 3rd try, it froze.
I will report, and update how I get on over he coming days.

LoL,
You get it working an I just had it freeze on me. I know mine isn't a bad install. Possibly a corruption in the update or just a glitch. Gonna run it again in a little bit.
Weird part is usually you can shut it down through task manager and restart it. Not this time. It didn't even show in task manager, but I did x it out before looking. When I tried to run it it would give you a pop up saying the core is busy. Also the program it is stuck on isn't new, so that isn't it.
For those of you reading this, the scan shouldn't take over an 1 1/2 hours on a full scan. It might possibly a little longer if you have usb drives or more than 1 hard drive that has a lot of information on it. It should never take longer than a few minutes in one place. The only reason the time is so high on mine is cause I fell asleep. I would have never let it be stuck in one place for that long. If stop scan doesn't do the trick then it is locked and you should open your task manager and stop it.

Well I came home to find it has froze again.
Something is clearly not right with this particular release.

Its annoying isn't it.
Im about to run another full scan, and will report back how it goes. Won't be right away though, as Im going out now.

full scans have been working for me fine since beta. althought they do tend to take over two hours but thats probably due to the amount of junk i have.

Did a Disk Check yesterday.
I have uninstalled Ad-Aware 2008 for now. gutted, as Ive been using Lavasoft products for years.

When you get a chance try uninstalling spybot then spyware blaster. I don't think there has ben any reports of AVG intefering, but with spybot there are reports.
I'm saying when you get a chance, cause you might prefer spybot or spware blaster to adaware, so this is just a test. If we can figure out which one is interfering with it, maybe LS can look into some sort of patch. Also. give it it a try with both uninstalled if uninstalling one doesn't work.

AVG 8.0 Free is causing MAJOR headaches to a whole load of users.
AVG Free Forum is recommending the uninstall of AdAware prior to a fresh install of AVG 8.0 Free.
Personally, I reverted to AVG 7.5 Free after trying AVG 8.0 Free.
But I have religiously swept my HD (in my case a RAID Mirror) with MSCheckDisk, CCleaner, *edit* and HD defrag, */edit* between uninstalls and fresh installs of AVG, AAW, and after the latest update to SpywareBlaster (v4.0 -> v4.1).
I can report that SpyBot S&D and SpywareBlaster don't conflict with my AAW 2008 PLUS on MY system.
And AAW 2008, subject to a few GUI anomalies, works fine on my system.
Not gloating - just trying to provide A/B Comparison relevant information.

Im going to try this today, as spybot does report upon launch that Ad-Aware may conflict..
I do like SpyBot however, and have always had this, and aw-aware running in harmony before, it will such a shame if this is the culprit.

Spybot removed, ad-aware2008 reinstalled, now running a full scan, will report back shortly.

Tea Timer was reported to be the problem with spybot, so if adaware is running properly after you uninstalled spybot. Try reinstalling spybot without teatimer. This was reported during the beta, but with some people it ran fine and other's it didn't. I'm glad you have the patience to go over and try things. It can get very frustrating to say the least. Sorry, I didn't have you try this sooner, but its hard to know where to start. The most problems have been with corrupted downloads or installs, so we start there then move to software conflicts.
Hopefully, the next report is a good one and it ran just fine.
edit: I forgot about Pierre's post. I think he is saying that link scanner is conflicting to. It looks like we have two possible software conflicts.

Full scan completed fine.
Just to note, I have managed two full scans prior to this with SpyBot installed. I will text again later with another full scan without SpyBot installed, and report back with my findings which I hope will help the beta testers here.

I run Spybot S&D, but WITHOUT Tea-Timer, and I haven't had any recognisable conflicts between S&D and AAW 2008 Plus...
If this is useful...? If not, delete it...

It is probably from one of your posts I learned that, so yea its useful. Thankyou.

Update 1e
Yet another successful full scan completed with spybot uninstalled yesterday.
Today, i have just updated the definition file, which was a big one, took a little while longer than usual.
Running another full scan without Spybot, then will report back.
I will then reinstall spybot, and try again.
