Hello,

    Thank you for the help.

Such processes like AdAwareService.exe and SBAMSvc.exe can be stopped only by administrator. It is not a bug. It can be changed but Microsoft requires that all processes can be stopped by administrator. If you stop AdAware.exe only Ad-Aware GUI will be stopped.

    Thanks,

    Ann

Do not agree. You can never stop processes of Avast, Kaspersky, Panda, Comodo, Symantec...etc.

    Hi sophos,

Note that Ad-Aware version 10 is not released yet. The version circulating on internet is not the version to be released, see http://www.lavasofts...0-almost-ready/ . I am beta-testing Ad-Aware 10, but that is the Pro version and my answers might be incorrect.

    1. Lavasofts own and VIPRE.

    2. See http://www.lavasofts...of-ad-aware-10/

    Hello ,

When reviewing the new features in Ad-Aware Free V.10, I noticed that it only offers :

(Real-time process protection- Real-time Registry Protection- Real-time network protection)

    There's NO Real-Time File Protection!

I think there are better alternatives ; like Avast! Free Antivirus!

    Best Regards,

    Hi,

Since Ad-Aware Free version 9 has file protection, it is not a new feature of Free version 10 and therefore not mentioned in the article. It has not been removed in version 10.

To clarify, Ad-Aware 10 will detect files as they are written to disk before they can be executed.

    Hi,

    2. It will be released when all known serious bugs have been corrected. It is impossible to know the exact date at the moment.

    Testing v.10 beta free.

    Some feedback:

    1. The scanning time is too long! Reduce it!

2.Put an option to directly submit files through the GUI.False positives and malware samples.

    Hi Smith999,

Thanks for the feedback - this kind of stuff is really useful. Can I ask you to let us know a few things about the scan you ran?

Type of scan

Scan time

Processor

RAM

Hard drive capacity

Free space on hard drive
I like your idea to submit files through the GUI. So much so that I created a new thread just for ideas and suggestions: http://www.lavasofts...in-ad-aware-10/

Can I ask you to post your thoughts there, so we can keep ideas for improvements in one place?

    Cheers!

    Hi Smith999,

In my opinion, it is al-right that Ad-Aware takes longer time (maybe 50%) to scan the computer than AVG Internet Security 2011 (that I had a year ago) since Ad-Aware uses two engines instead of only one and then is able to discover more types of malicious files.

    @ Smith999

One last question - are there any large media files (eg films) or ISO files on the drives you scanned?

    Thanks for your input!

Ad-Aware treats ISOs as archives - can you uncheck the "Scan archives" box and scan again? I'd be curious to know how long the same scan takes.

    Ha! Love the avatar!

    1. Scan time - better?

    2. Critical error - possibly a bad choice of words to describe a threat?

I'll check out the Panda Toolbar detection.

Scan complete. 1 hour 26 minutes.

Sometimes, the files in quarantine are not present. There's just a yellow bar. When I click at that bar, description of a threat is shown. This is about panda toolbar, which is detected as a trojan.

    http://free.pandasecurity.com/

edit:Can somebody explain what is this(see screenshot) What does it mean? A critical error, but what exactly?

    Yeah, the avatar is nice.I like it too./smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

The scan time is better, but not great. And that's with no archive scanning.

Ad-Aware does not indicates with alert, when a malware is detected by the real time protection. It puts the files in the quarantine, but silently, no alerts.

  • Customer
Thanks! That's good, but I think we still need an alert, in every possible mode(except gaming mode).Just to know that malware is blocked(detected etc.).Just a suggestion. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

You can configure that. Click the gear below "Real-Time Protection" on the main screen. There you will find a pull-down menu "Suspicious programs" and you can, for example, select "Prompt User" to get a question when a malicious file is found.

    Hi Gavin2012,

It is complex technical solution, but in short it is a way for Ad-Aware 10 to run suspected programs in a safe way to see if they behaves as malicious programs or not. One of many ways that Ad-Aware 10 has to investigate programs. Did you understand that?

what is an malware sandbox emulater?

  • Support
    You are welcome, Gavin2012 /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It is not that type of sandbox in which you can run, for example, Internet Explorer and be sure that a web page cannot do anything with Windows.

I think that the self defense is weak.I can easily stop all ad-aware processes from the task manager. Is that true or I'm mistaken?
Thanks, the information has been passed on to the developers.

what will be frequency of auto update in new adware internet security free 10 previously it was twice a week which was a large gap /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> .

Somebody previously mentioned no pop up when a threat is detected you should work on this it should show pop up when detecting a threat and auto update. you should provide a offline installer for beta version so that more people can test it and more bugs will be ironed out, web installer is ridiculously slow.I am dying to try out this beta but web installer is too slow for me /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> .
