Adaware 11 turned my browser to MUD!
Since I installed version 11, upgrading from 10, my browser has turned to mud. Pages that used to load in less than a second take up to 30 seconds. Streaming video pauses frequently, often for several seconds. Adobe flash crashes frequently. I am running windows 7 professional with 8 GB RAM and the latest Firefox, fully updated.

Hi TomCat,
To help Lavasoft investigate your problem, please collect and upload log files, see http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33638-collect-logs-for-troubleshooting/ for instructions.
Did you install Ad-Aware with or without the toolbar?
0 -
Sorry, but I can't see any logs, Tom. Didn't you see how to attach them?

I installed it without the toolbar. Logs attached. Thanks.,
Tom

I did, but I did not notice the "attach" button. Here it is.

Thanks, Tom
Please, upload also the file from the Temp folder and the System Information file.

Thank you
On Monday I'll inform my contact person at Lavasoft that you have uploaded logs.

I've been having a similar issue, my whole computer's performance was so poorly effected by this version that I have actually uninstalled it completely. It was taking over a minute for some windows to open, Windows crashed several times, and several multimedia programs stopped responding and had to be closed because they would not recover.
I never ever had this issue with Ad-Aware 10, and now that I've uninstalled 11 my computer is running fine again.
I am disappointed because Ad-Aware is one of two programs I use in defence against virus' etc, and now that I've removed it, my main Malware defense is gone. But I cannot keep it installed when it performs like this.
I would like to know if there is a way to revert back to Ad-Aware 10, and if there is any point is doing so?
Unfortunately, this is all I could find by following the instructions you posted.

Hi Oobies,
Do you know if Ad-Aware 11 installed in compatible mode without real-time protection, as it should when you have Avast installed?

Here it is.
Tom
Hi Tom,
I noticed now that you have uploaded the System Information program file and not its log file. Please, try again since the log file contains vital information about your computer.

This is the logs folder.
Tom

Sorry Tom,
That is the same folder that you already have uploaded, Lavasoft need the information you collect by following section 2 and 3 on http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33638-collect-logs-for-troubleshooting/ and they also wants to know if you are using Ad-Aware Free, Personal, Pro or Total Security.
Have you created any firewall rules for the applications if you have Pro or Total Security?
Edit:
What features in Ad-Aware are enabled?

Hi again Oobies,
Do you mean that there is only one log in C:\Program Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 11\Logs folder?
Unfortunately the log you uploaded doesn't contain enough information.

At C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 11 there are six folders: Activation, History, Logs, Options, Quarantine and Update. I right-clicked the Logs folder and serlected send to -->compresed file. The comprtessed file created is the Logs.zip I sent you. I do not see how what I did differs from the instructions you gave me.
I have Ad-aware Pro.
I have created no rules for applications.
When I first wrote this Real Time protection, Email Protection, Web Pritection and Network Protection were all on. Since I have turned off web protection and real time protection, and performance has improved, but not to the level of performance I had with Ad-aware 10 Pro.
You have done the right things with the log folder, Tom, but please do this:
2. Temp folder
Windows Vista, 7 and 8:
Find the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp.
Find the files starting with Msi, check the time stamp of the files to find the one created during the installation of Ad-Aware (probably the latest one).
Right-click the file and select Send to - Compressed folder.
A new zip file, called Msixxx.zip, will be created.
3. System Information
Windows 8:
Right-click on Start button (bottom left corner) and select Search. Search for: msinfo32
When it's listed (may appear as System Information), start that program.
In the System Information window, please select Save in the File menu and save the file where you can find it, e.g. the desktop.
Right-click the saved file and select Send to - Compressed folder.
A new zip file will be created.
Windows Vista, 7:
Click on Start button and in the little search field above the start button enter the command: msinfo32
When it's listed above the search field, start that program.
In the System Information window, please select Save in the File menu and save the file where you can find it, e.g. the desktop.
Right-click the saved file and select Send to - Compressed folder.
A new zip file will be created.
-------------------
Please, turn on and off one feature at a time and use the computer for a while between every change, to find out which features that have any impact on the performance.

On #2, there are no msixxx files at that location. I regularly run Glary Utilities to keep my system garbage free, and it trashes temp files, so I suspect that is why.
On #3 the file is attached.
I will turn off all except email protection and start enabling one at a time. This may sound like a stupid question, but if the solution is not to use the advanced features of Ad-aware Pro, then why am I paying for Pro instead of using Free?
One more thing. When I was installing it, it suggested that I should uninstall Malwarebytes or install Ad-aware in the less advanced 'Compatibiliutry Mode.' I uninstalled Malwarebytes and did not opt for Compatibility mode.
Thanks,
Tom

Thank you for the attached file.
Turning off features is only for troubleshooting purpose, the goal is that you should be able to use all of them, of course. Please, test with turning off Email protection too (maybe you can turned off the email program at the same time, if you think you'll receive malicious emails).
Good that you uninstalled Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's possible that when your current issues have been solved, you maybe can install the program.
I can see that there are McAfee drivers installed and running. Do you know what McAfee program you have (had)?

Hi again Tom,
Have you been able to see which features that have any impact on the performance?
0 -
Thanks Cecelia
OK. The only MAfee program I use is Safe Eyes.
With only email on, it works just as it should. If I turn on any other componant, the performance becomes degraded. If I add a second component, it becomes more degraded, and with all compoments, it is most degraded. I have tried every possible combination, and it does not seem to matter which features are enabled, just how many. I will try closing my outlook and turning email protection off to see what happens.
Tom
Back: Closing Outlook and turning off email protection makes no difference.

Sorry, but Lavasoft wants you to only disable Web Protection and check performance.

Thank you for the investigation Tom
I'll inform my contact person at Lavasoft.
I can see that you have an automatic start of MyPC Backup. Is that a program you use?
I have seen others reporting that it has been installed without their knowledge.
There are two drivers from Ad-aware 10 that wasn't uninstalled. Please, do it manually:
Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
Find the Device Manager in the left column.
Select View menu - Show hidden files.
Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers in the middle column.
Find the gfibto driver.
Right-click it and select Uninstall.
Repeat for the gfiark driver.
Restart the computer.

I do use MyPCBackup, but only until my subscription expires. It's a rip, and I'm very pissed PC Magazine for giving it a good review.
I removed the two drivers and restarted. I have it with everything but gaming enabled now, and after seeing how that does, I shall disable web protection and compare.
Thanks,
Tom

What's happening, Tom?

Thanks for your information, Tom
Very useful.
Have you configured anything in the firewall of Ad-Aware?
It might be something there that isn't correct. Start by applying all default settings, please.
On Advanced Settings tab:
Internet connection sharing set to Off.
Monitor process changes set to On.
Default action set to Allow.
Do you have any rules on the Application Rules tab?
If yes, please remove them. (Write them down or take a snap shot of them if you want to restore them later.)
Have you added anything on the Adapter tab (Adapter Settings tab followed by Edit)?
If yes, please remove it.
Set Stealth to Off.
Please, restart the computer and report back how it behaves now.

Sorry for the delay. I write a political blog and hit a busy patch, and I knew your tecxhs would be off for the weekennd.
Performance was amazingly great until I noticed an alert in the Action Center in my System Tray. It told me both the Ad-aware and Windows firewalls were off and asked me which to turn on. I chose Ad-aware, of course.
Since then, my browser has slowed down again, but nowhere near to the extent it has before. Turning web enabling on and off seems to male no difference.
Is there anyway to improve it now?
Thanks,
Tom

All changes made. Will restart, test drive it for a while and check back.
Thanks,
Tom

OK. We seem to have lost ground. It's slower.
I have configured nothing in the firewall.
I reset to default.
The only other change I needed to make it fit your instructions was turning stealth off in the adapter settings.
It's nowhere near as bad as when we started, but it's clearly less quick than before, expecially when first opening Firefox.

Tom,
Please, upload a new System Information file, see post #16. Lavasoft wants to check that the drivers you removed between post #21 and #23 really are gone.

Hi jmababa001,
Most users can have Ad-Aware installed and use Internet Explorer and Firefox. Since you wrote otherwise, I guess you have some issues, please describe them.
