Scan is locked in infinite loop

    Hi Mick,

Note that when adaware antivirus is scanning the computer, it saves all files that are scanned and the next time only changed files are scanned. This means that first scan after a new installation can take several hours, even if the later scan only takes a few minutes. Please be patient and let adaware scan e.g. during a whole night.

If that doesn't help, please follow the instructions in this topic:

OK Thanks Cecilia, will let it run overnight tonight, see how that goes.

    Thanks

Please come back if the problem continues.

Just started the scan, and noticed the "Current Scan Target" is blank. I can't say I've ever noticed before, but wonder if this is an indication that nothing is scanning and it's just stuck at the beginning.

Anyway, I'll let it run and come back in the morning.

    Thanks again

    Mick

Thank you for reporting, and please post log files if it doesn't work. But I can't reach my contact person at adaware software until Monday, so no hurry.

I am having the exact same problem. I recently upgraded from free to Adaware Pro. I am also stuck on this screen where it says calculating in the orange bar as pictured above. Except my elapsed time is 22:40:55. Pause works but Stop does not. Closing the program and shutting the computer down has also not got me past this screen. I have never had this issue continue even after shutting the computer down and restarting when it was the free version and I have been using this for years. This is extremely frustrating. Do I get a refund if I uninstall this version and get the free one again?

    Hi Lyresa,

Since you've paid for adaware antivirus you can contact their support team, if you want help directly from the company. You can contact them from the menus in adaware antivirus. If you want to continue in this topic, please attach log files as described in my first post in this topic.

    Hi Francois,

Thanks for the report. It would be easier for adaware software to investigate the problem if you can upload log files too.

I had to renew my license keys in the last few days on my 3 computers.  Got the same issue that what it is described here.  The scan function doesn't appears to be able to scan.  Just did a fresh install after many reboot to kill this scan process.

    Here was my case:

    1- Working well

    2- Update the license key

3- Unable to perform full or quick scan (no files reported in the Current Scan Target)

4- Needs at least two reboots to kill the scan process

    5- disable Adaware Antivirus PRO

6- Remove the applications and reboot

7- Did a fresh install and reboot

8- add my licenses keys and update definitions

9- Still have the scan issue

Sounds like a software bug ... quite annoying, hopefully it will be solve rapidly by Adaware.  I have 3 licenses for Antivirus PRO all 3 computers show the same problem.

    Thanks!

    François

    Hi Per,

To remove all parts of adaware antivirus that are still around after the uninstallation, please use the removal tool: https://www.adaware.com/removal-tool

That removal tool will not even work! What a waist of my time now I can't even get this crap off my computer.

I've tried the removal tool instead of uninstall from Windows and got the same results:  Scan is stuck in infinite loop.  In order to remove the Adaware software it must be disabled.  If the software is stuck in the scan I figure it out that it takes from 1-2 reboot to stop it before being able to disable Adaware and ready to be remove.

I've opened a ticket at Adaware ... hoping that this will be solve in a near future.  By the time just run without it.

    Hi Ben and Francois,

Uninstallation and removal tool don't work while adaware is trying to scan the computer, please start in safe mode before trying to uninstall and remove adaware antivirus.

To get the removal tool to work, go to task master look at the process section and select all the occurrences of adaware with the exception of the adaware removal tool and click the End Task button. That should enable you to get the Adaware removal tool to work. It worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you.

however, after re-installing and running a quick scan the original problem persists. scan stops 1 (one!) second before completion in an infinite loop. must be a more general issue, which should be up to the software guys to solve. please let us know when working OK again.

Hi, I am having the same issue since late last week after the definition update and both quick and full scan function were not able to complete at 1 second left in scan with the "Adaware Antivirus Pro" version in Window 7 Home Premium - 64bit

It appears to be a software bug, please provide update to solve this issue immediately.

    Thank you.

Received feedback from Adaware.  They suggested to run the "repair" from the Add/Remove Programs when you choose "Modify" instead of "Uninstall".  Just run it, the process of repair completed with however the issue still persist.  When the scan function work, it shows which files it scans ... with the issue nothing scan even if the progress bar reach 99.9%.  Sounds a deeper problem.  I've tried before complete uninstall and it did not solve the issue.  I think it is normal that the repair did not fix the issue.

I have sent this information and more to the supposedly 24/7 help center on my adaware pro and you are the only one that contacted me. I am now showing the red notice like everyone else that my scan is too old because none of my scans will finish! I have to turn off my laptop ans yank out the battery just to make sure the old scan shuts down and I try to scan through the yellow bar on the bottom that comes with the too old scan warning and now it has been stuck on that scan 28:28:51 and counting elapsed time. So my full scans do not get past calculating phase and my quick scans get stuck with 00:00:01 estimated time left.  ????

I did some research and found the numbers for Customer Service! The Agent I spoke with said they're aware of the problem and Technicians are working to repair it. He said it should be resolved in a few days, if it's not resolved by Friday I'll be calling again!!!

My contact person says that it's something to do with the definitions, that's why you all got the problem within a few days and there was no program update last week.

It won't help to uninstall or repair etc.

No more log files are needed at the moment.

Please, be patient and wait until it's solved or I've new information.

This was the answer I got from support when I reported it through my adaware pro  box.

Please try to repair Ad-Aware. Kindly follow the steps listed below:

    1. Click the Start button on your computer (left-hand side of the screen).

    2. Click Control Panel in the Start Menu.

    3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs / Click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.

Select Ad-Aware Antivirus from the list and then click Change.

The programs installed are typically listed in an alphabetical order.

    4. With the dialog box displayed, select Repair Ad-Aware and then click Next.

    5. You can see the repairing process in progress.

    6. Once the repairing process is complete, click Close.

This worked to fix the scan and it is now working properly however it turned off my network protection/firewall and I am unable to get it back on. I had to turn my windows firewall back on and am waiting to hear back from support to see what they advise. It did fix the scan though so happy about that ????
