I wonder how this forum rates on the Rant Index. Does a new "Gold" version of software usually attract this much flack?
Is the company listening? Or is this thread designed to collect the complaints all in one place so that they can be ignored?

1) What it does detect, it doesn't remove. It repeatedly detected the same cookies over and over, even after I said to remove them and never went back to those sites.2)The program obviously actively detects if the service is allowed to boot on start up. I tried, it will boot up fine without the service running if it is allowed to run at start up, but it won't boot up with or without the service running if the service isn't allowed at start up. I don't know if you people are trying to look like malware or just think we are all idiots. Your "reason" for the existence of this service makes me think both. It is needed to combat new malware threats? Obvious BS because no other program does this but Windows Defender and it is obvious why it's there, but let's pretend you're right. Ok, so why must it start with the computer? The program starts it if it isn't already running, then leaves it running using more resources than Yahoo Messenger, and that is a resource hog but at least it is doing something. If the program could run without the service having to start with the computer, or closing the service after the program ended would be one thing, but you don't do that. That is suspicious and between that and all the blatantly obvious bugs for something that has been in a very public beta phase, you are going to end up losing what credibility you had in the antispyware industry.
I agree!

Yes, it's called feedback. This is the place to post it
These are things that are not "bugs" to be reported or need assistance - but if you want us to look at something you don't like or that needs improvement, please post it here
19 Jun 2007: Edit to add
If you wish to post a true bug report, please use the following link to post a new topic in the "Bug Reports" forum:

Hi Martyoplastic
Yes, there are quite a few topics already posted about the service. Here is one response:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...ost&p=43492
This topic is for feedback if you only have a comment about something you don't like so that we have one place that we can review for things that can be improved or worked on.
However, if you have an issue that needs assistance, then please post a new topic and hopefully, someone will be able to help.

What exactly is the issues with this AAW 2007????? Seems to be having a hell of a lot of installation and functionality problems..
I have always been an advocate of Ad Aware in all the PC forums I frequent, but this debacle is really biting into the credibility of even mentioning it for fear others will perceive it as a joke if they have to go thru all this crapola!!....
Just my two cents worth...
I truly have always preferred Ad Aware over others, but I really don't absolutely need it if I have to go thru all this...especially with no response or clue from Lavasoft techies???...
Sorry to see the once fantastic Ad Aware reduced to this debacle.

Ok, so you are telling me that you have no links with Lavasoft and you cannot bring me any support.
I understand now, I won't bother you anymore.

Let me remind you that my question required only 2 possible answers :
1- YES
2- NO
So, I repeat the question :
Please could you confirm that the problem with aawservice has been transmitted to the developpers of Ad-Aware 2007 ?
Pease could you answer this question ?
It would be nice for us.
Would you have the amability to answer my question correctly ?

I can confirm that this issue is brought to the attention of the development team.
We will address the issue but I cannot say in what way since we need to make an informed decision on what to do first. Until we have done that, there is not much detailed information we can give you. I hope you understand that.
We will post information in these forums when we know more.

Hang on to your hats, folks!
I can empathize with resource-hog complaints: NO ONE LIKES A RESOURCE HOG!
My personal experience with Beta 7 (I worked with Beta 6 and 7) never had the SERVICE using up 79 Mb of resources!
I suspect that there may be a configuration change (without disabling the real-time protection of Ad-Watch) which will alleviate your current situation(s) and concern(s). I checked the link provided by LS CalamityJane--read all the posts--and assure you that LS Tobias is a top-flight system tweaker where Ad-Aware 2007 is concerned. Stay tuned in, try uploading a screen shot of Process Viewer (available from Sysinternals on the MS site [i think the beta testers forum link went to MS' Tech download site, but I presently do not recall]--otherwise check www.sysinternals.com) in the Support Forum topic, and your help WILL come!
Regards--and thanks for your patience!

Pathetic text mapping.
Why is some of the text on the AdWatch screens too large? Can't read the entire word it is so large, or on many screens the bold-face text is overlapping the non-bold-face description.
I know that you 'geeks' out there will think this is just ticky-tacky, but doesn't the appearance count for anything? I run Adobe, Microsoft, Sony, etc software, as well as software from unheard-of companies and this little Piece of S#it is the only one that does this. I'm running WinXP SP2, 2GB RAM, if that is of any help.
I know you will ignore this, but at least posting helps me vent. Don't your designers even give a $#it what how their product displays? Attached are two examples of what I'm referring too. How can you put out a product that looks so SECOND-CLASS! Boo on you!

I know it's free but until the powers that be decide if they are going to address the issue of aawservice or not, set it to start manually and after updating or running a scan 'end-process' it via Task Manager. Have been doing that since I installed the new version and saw this service running. Absolutely no adverse effects on my system by doing this. But it is a ___ nuisance to keep having to do it.

If he is a top flight system tweaker, and since no one can answer my question in the forum, can he or you tell me why only some 'infections' found in scan results are deleted and many are not?

Because after months of very public tests, they still managed to rush it out ahead of time with more bugs than games released in the mid-90s.

Thank you for taking the time to compile a list of bugs. We will try and set up a bug report forum in the coming week.
I will not answer all of your questions here and now, but I wanted to assure you that your post have been read and we will address these issues and get back to you with information as soon as we know more.

For CNET or PC Magazines to give rave reviews of the new AdAware is suspect...they too must have seen all the bugs and how screwed up it is. Or could they have been "compensated"...

QUOTE(Bill22sup @ Jun 10 2007, 02:51 PM)
I am running the Free version using Windows XP.I have done my third smart scan, now. It tells me that it found 32 privacy objects and that it deleted 14 objects. Then, when I ran A-A SE, It found 13 tracking cookies, but only one of them had hits. Normally, all the tracking cookies have at least one hit. It seems as though 2007 is leaving something behind.
Yes, the 2007 version is deleting only some of what it finds in privacy objects (specifically tracking cookies)! Finally, someone else is confirming that--EVERYTIME a scan is run, only a small number of them are deleted compared to what is found. Or at least that's what it says in the scan results. This is a problem that needs to be fixed!

A comparatively minor rant - custom scan is no longer an option in the free version. That sucks.

I've used ad-aware free for several years and thought it was a great program. After reading about all the bugs and complaints, I will not be using 2007 at this time, switching to another for a while. Such a shame they released a program like this that's causing so many problems. Sad and disappointing, since ad-aware previously had so many good reviews.

don't toss in the towel yet...I've been with ad-adware for several years also...the Lavasoft team will fix it..
for now just break something !!!!!!!!!!!

i spent several hours of my time working through problems with the installatioh of ad-aware 2007 only to find that when i was succesful (and may i say very pleased with myself) that it sucks up resources like a black hole, i am needless to say extremely dissappointed with this new and vaunted product and am thinking of dumping it entirely and finding another program from another vendor which will run when i want it to (i must say that when i ran the beta product i did not notice it being such a resource hog) polygon

(Topic Merged - Original Title: Free Version Or Not, For It Not To Find Things That It Should Is Just Not Acceptable, UNINSTALLING AD AWARE 2007, JUST NOT WORTH IT...GOODBYE AAW!!
James333 Today, 01:45 PM)
Is is SO obvious that with all these problems, AAW 2007 was released too early, but what is so bad is that the product team HAD to have known there were still many problems, how could they not?? But yet they chose to release it and cause distress to all those who were dumb enough to trust that it was a "final" version and download it. Just not worth the aggravation, especially when, after a week, scans don't find something as evident as tracking cookies! At least not for me. Could be months until/if they fix all the bugs and in the meantime, my computer is "infected." Ad Aware will always leave a bad taste in my mouth now and I will steer anyone away from it! See ya!!!!

slightly annoying i agree but there are enough options in full scan (via settings) to make up for it.

I have two large drives full of mp3s and nothing else, which I do NOT need scanned. Show me that option in settings.
