Cannot update since 4/12 ... thorax.aaw
I am running Adaware Free Internet Security 9.03. Last update was 4/12 0150.0363
When I try to update it begins downloading and applying the updates.
When it gets to thorax.aaw it says Applying Update and the Update Manager just closes. No updates are applied.
Any suggestions on how to fix this.

Hi larmarmil and blogger1,
Little more details would be nice, please.
Can you right-click de Ad-Aware icon in the system tray and select 'Exit Ad-Aware'? Do the icon disappear then?
Do you get any error messages from the Update Manager when you start it from the Start menu?0 -
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HERE IN SAN DIEGO. :-( 0 -
Same problem here, just in my case database version was 0150.0360. However, manual update works. 0 -
Same problem also - Last update - 0150.0358 0 -
I did find the solution under another thread.
I stopped Adaware from running by right clicking and doing an exit.
Then go to start ... all programs .. Adaware and update from there. It worked.0 -

OK - tried that, and after a couple of tries, it said it was up to date - 0150.0366
Something wrong with update from main application?0 -
That appears to be the latest definition release.

I tried this method and still my definition version is 4/13/2011 0150.0363. Usually when I update Ad-aware sort of reboots but I noticed that this is not happening anymore.

Can you please try and exit Ad-Aware (right click in the tray and choose exit)
Then, run the update from the start menu. If this does not fix the problem, please let me know.

Finally got to update to the latest version 0150.0367
I finally figured out what the previous posts recommended as "exit and update from the start menu", meaning look for the Ad-aware updates from the Lavasoft program before re-starting the program completely.
Hope this clarifies somewhat for the other posts!0 -

That workaround will indeed allow you to apply the update. If you need some help, here's a guide: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=31048

I tried all the solutions and nothing has worked for me. I still cannot get updated. What's next????

I too tried all suggestions. NOT working!! Down since 4/12/11! 0 -
Hi larmarmil,
In start menu you have to select "Ad-Aware Updates" and not the program itself. See the instruction http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...st&p=1261230 -

Yes I can right click icon and select exit. Icon disappears. No error messages.
I click on Start and All Programs and Lavasoft and Adaware and Adaware.
Icon reappears. Run update. Starts to reinitialize after applying thorax.aaw.
Stops here.

CeciliaB: When I right click on system tray, I do not get an exit option. I get on right click: open, run as, send to, cut, copy, create shortcut, delete, rename, properties. When I go to start menu, etc., etc., the update still stops and kicks out when trying to apply thorax.aaw update. Please advise. 0 -

Hi blogger1,
Do we mean the same thing with "system tray"? I mean the area in the lower right corner where the clock is displayed. You should have an Ad-Aware icon there when it is running. Sometimes you have to click on a symbol similar to << to display all available icons in the system tray.0 -
I do not have an AA globe icon on right by clock. I have an AA globe icon on left bottom to the right of my start. There are no hidden icons. 0 -
Hi blogger1,
That is the quick start field which contains short-cuts to programs. A short-cut icon cannot be used to control a running program.
Do you have version 9 of Ad-Aware?
Are you sure Ad-Aware/Ad-Watch is running?0 -
Version 9.0.3 - free
Now, I am not sure it is running . . . .
Is there another way to circumvent this problem?0 -
Do you have another antivirus program installed?
What is happening when you do:
# Click on Start -> All Programs -> Lavasoft -> Ad-Aware -> Ad-Aware Updates
# Allow update manager to update
"Guide for manually loading def file into Ad-Aware 9.x": http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=305690 -
Like I said, when I click on AA updates, it starts to update and then stops and kicks out when it gets to thorax.aaw.
In my windows task manager, it shows AA is running. What if I end process there and then try update from start??0 -
CeciliaB: Those instructions are quite lengthy and tricky (to me).
Would it be safer (for me) to uninstall and reinstall?0 -
Missed one of your ques.: AVG antivirus. 0 -
Hi blogger1,
Having two antivirus programs running at the same time often means problems due to conflicts between the two programs. My advice is that you either uninstall AVG or turn off the real-time protection in Ad-Aware. See http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...st&p=124418 for instruction of how to turn off Ad-Watch.
The post http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...st&p=125587 by LS Digger Barnes might be useful, too.
What if I end process there and then try update from start??
You can try that.
Would it be safer (for me) to uninstall and reinstall?
I don't know if that helps.0 -

Andy,
Just out of curiosity -- would this problem have anything to with the recent C++ (2005 or 2008) SP1 redistributable security update (KB2467174 or KB2467175)? Microsoft posted this on Windows Update about the exact same time (April 13th) everyone (including myself) began having these problems. I understand Ad-Aware uses C++ SP1 redistributable for version 9.
Or is this just coincidence? /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Thanks!0 -

Hi fluxgate,
Honest answer: Oh, how I would love to blame Microsoft but I cannot. Just a coincidence. We are genuinely sorry for the update problems currently being experienced and are working on a resolution as I type. This is #1 priority for the development team until it is resolved.
The answer I would prefer to give: Yes! Yes! It is Microsoft's update causing the problems! They did it! Not us! /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Thanks for your patience everyone - we're working on it. For anyone who has run out of patience, I refer you to sentences 3 & 4 in honest answer above
