Hello all LavaSoftSupport users, I have a problem with your software, Adaware, It makes my PC lag.
Is there any solution for this? My PC has 3GB ram, 1.5 Ghz Dualcore and a newly installed Windows 7 Home premium.
Please help me with this, I like your software, but this "lag" is driving me nuts.

Hi devstaff,
Do you have another antivirus program installed? It might be a conflict between that program and Ad-Aware.0 -

No, I only have Lavasoft Ad-Aware installed.
And Lavasoft Ad-aware is the only security related software installed0 -
If you haven't paid for Ad-Aware, but since you have a really serious problem with Ad-Aware 10, you might contact Lavasoft directly: http://lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/support/supportcenter/adaware_critical_problem_report
If you have bought Ad-Aware, you can contact the Lavasoft support (higher priority): http://lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/support/supportcenter/contact_support
They can then connect directly to your computer and investigate what the problem/solution is.
While waiting, you can try to uninstall and install again. If you have had another antivirus program installed since you installed Windows 7, be sure to run its special removal/clean-up tool.0 -
hello May I join onto this thread? I have the same problem. I had Adaware Anniversary Pro which was due to expire in July. For the past week I have been getting a warning to say I needed the latest version of adaware because my Anniversary Pro edition is out of date and that my subscription is to end at the end of May. (Which it doesn't) Becoming increasingly worried that Adaware might just stop running, I bought the new download for another year plus the extended adawre to protect loss of file data. (sorry I am not computer literate AT ALL!)
Download goes well, but then in doing a full scan my computer crashed? I couldn't do a thing on it except to switch it off at the stack. I did a quick restore to the day I had downloaded the new version and it seemed fine, BUT as soon as the sceduled FULL scan started my computer started to lag again and it was taking forever to open anything or if I clicked on anything at all it took forever for it to respond. It did eventually, but took an unatural length of time to carry out the command as it were. As soon as the scan stopped everything is fine. Also the quick scan is ok, no problems. I have sent a message to the support group but still no reply. I wish I had never bought the thing. I have windows XP. If this 10.1 version is not compatible with XP why do Lavasoft give us customers this warning to renew to this version? I am also registered blind and I cannot see or move around the interface (as it were) of this Adaware Pro 10.1 version. The Adware Pro Anniversary edition was great , easy to see and pretty obvious to use. I wish I had it back! Can you help please?0 -
Hi buttonbox,
Ad-Aware 10 is compatible with XP.
Do you have another antivirus program installed?
How old is your computer?
It is possible to set how much CPU a scan is allowed to use on the Performance Settings tab.

My computer is new, bought it this year from a Swedish store called Siba.
Im gonna contact them now, but this problem is driving me nuts.

Did the system restore remove Ad-Aware 10.1? I do not think so because the icon was still on mydesktop . I would rather somebody did it for me, which I know they can do , only if that is necessary of course. I could use my computer as normal. Its working and so is my computer, its just pitifully slow, and there does not seem to be anything to indicate how long the scan will last. On the Anniversary Pro edition there was some indication just how far on the scan was, due to the number of files scanned, but that facility is not on this edition it seems. Reading manuals is no good for me, not only because of sight problems but half the time I do not know what they are referring to! I have contacted support 3 times! no reply!
Can you tell me please if there is a newer verion of Adaware plus pro Anniversary edition, with that interface? or is that now finished altogether? Both Ad-Aware 10.0 and 10.1 are compatible with XP.
Did you uninstall Ad-Aware Anniversary before installing Ad-Aware 10? If not, there might be left-overs that disturbs Ad-Aware 10.
Do you have an Ad-Aware icon in system tray, the area with the clock usually in lower right corner?
When did you first contact Lavasoft support?
I think that Ad-Aware 9.6 maybe is the right choice for you, if your current problems are not solved. It is at least newer than Ad-Aware Anniversary.0 -

Anniversary is so old, so the installation program of version 10 is not prepared for it.
Please, check in "Control Panel" - "Add and remove programs" which Ad-Aware that is listed there.
Lavasoft support is probably heavy loaded now due to problems with version 10, why it may take some more time before they contact you. Please, if you have a spam folder in your email program check it, too.0 -

Hello again,
Again I have had to stop the full scan. The longer it went on the worse my computer slowed up until once again I had to switch it off at the stack, so using the FULL scan is not possible basically. I rang what I was led to believe was a telephone support here in England but they said they were just for Billing support. However the chap said it was normal for a full scan to cause a computer to run slower but if it is as slow as this it appears it is requiring too much memory in order to run, thats what he said anyway, and to be honest the only thing that has made any sense so far! But what can I do about it?
I do not use Games by the way if that information is of any use?
I am getting absolutely nowhere and I am afraid in case, as devstaff has said " the download is buggy", that I have a bug with this download causing this? something is certainly not right..
It really is worrying. I am not computer literate and this is driving me nuts now. I got one reply from lavasoft support saying to uninstall the download and try this:-, ie; a link to a free download? What use is that? I PAID for a years subscription two months before the due date, and also an extended part to protect data! .What do I want a free download for? No explanation nothing!. Ignored ALL My questions and all the other points I raised regarding my payment for the subscription, the fact that the download isn't usuable, except for a quick scan, and is probably knackering my computer in the process!
I am truly fed up and worried sick about it. I am an elderly person a pensioner, and I cannot afford to get Lavasoft Premium services to clean my computer its too expensive, and if there IS a bug it came with that download THAT is for sure! I have done nothing wrong at all, my computer was perfect in every way before that download.. I cannot get any practical help at all. I realise you are a volunteer and it isn't fair for you to be getting all this flack, is there nobody who can sort this out who works for lavasoft?
I tried to open my control panel as you suggested. I couldn't ! It opened but nothing there! I got a microsoft error reporting. I couldn't then close it, and In the end it just froze. I switched off at the stack started my computer again and all was fine. This is what I found in All programmes (install/uninstall)
Adaware Anti-Virus ( the new Logo A)
Adaware Browsing Protection (the old logo (the globe one)
Adaware Security Toolbar- ( the new Logo A)
I don't know how to insert a snapshot picture otherwise I would have.
Thanks0 -
Yes,sometime if you full scan your computer if it finds something you stop scan it hung Ad-aware 10.1 0 -
Hi again buttonbox,
Do you know how much RAM memory there is in the computer?
Nowadays XP is not running smoothly with less than 1 GB RAM in my humble opinion.
Please open Ad-Aware Main screen and click "Settings" to the right. Then you will see "Performance Settings" to the left, click on it. Drag the orange button above "Full" downwards to the text "Lowest". Try to run a full scan. If still impossible to run it, drag the orange button to "Idle".
It is the same download file for Ad-Aware 10 Free Antivirus+ and Ad-Aware 10 Pro Security. When you enter the activation/license key for Pro Security, it will be a Pro Security version.0 -
I have sent numerous e-mails to Lavasoft and they have answered twice, nothing at all related to my problem or answered ONE single question. I cannot run a full scan because it slowly freezes my computer. My computer is more sluggish than before. I rang a Lavasoft telephone support here in England , and they said they were "Billing " Support only! However the chap said it sounded like running a full scan (which normally causes a computer to run slower, he said) is taking up too much memory and therefore I cannot work on the computer at the same time. This is very thing that this edition claims NOT to do. I am totally stuck. I cannot find any practical help at all. If I uninstall it I will be left with no protection at all, and I have paid for this 2 months BEFORE the due date! The product has been good in the past, but customer service is abysmal to say the least. What can I do? Anybody got any ideas?
( just seen your reply Cecilia so I will do that now. If it is that, what can I do?)0 -
to Mod:Cecilia-Well I dare not shout Hurrah!! too early, but so far your suggestion appears to be working!! Yeh! /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> I will have to wait until it has run for a few hours because before, it got worse as the scan went on, but I do feel I might be lucky! If I can run a full scan like this , I will say you are a genius and I cannot thank you enough!
May I ask, if I leave the setting as you suggest, and buy a new computer , (which I hope to before July this year I will be getting the fastest and biggest memory I can! already picked one in fact.) when everything is transferred onto that new computer could I then raise that button back to normal? I will let you know how things went , when this scan finishes. Grateful thanks for your advice so far.0 -
Hello devstaff, buttonbox!
I've have updated my AAW 9.6 client to 10.1.211.3382 by clicking "Update" button on a screen that has been shown in AAW 9.6 client I have no lags at all. I ran full scan and my CPU was used max for 50% and that is normal. Internet is working. Sites are opening.
My VM system config:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500, 3300 MHz
System Memory: 2048 MB
You can see this short video that everything works fine.

Actually I'll repeat "Full Scan" on Windows 7. I'll make a record of results and share it for you.
Of course our devteam is trying to find out what was the reason of your "hell" lags. Please write your system configuration.0 -
LS ArtemPlease write your system configuration. Haven't a CLUE where that is? Can you tell me where to find that? I looked at Computer info and it said Ram ok? You are probably wondering what on earth we are doing owning a computer and Registered blind at that! Ha ha! I can see a bit now due to pioneering surgery but I never saw ANYTHING not even daylight, until 2002! But seriously I have never had a need to look. However my computer is 2004 getting a new one very soon. I can see from your spec that your computer has intel core processor (mine hasn't) and more memory than I expect mine will have. There is nothing to be funny!
So, the first - you can see your minimal computer configuration by right clicking on "My computer" icon and selecting "Properties" option. Then you can see General information about your computer. For more detailed info you can use special programs like aida64 or Everest. You can see my system configuration in the video (2:03).
The second, VM means Virtual Machine.
CPU - Central Processor Unit, your Processor.0 -
buttonbox i understand your concern. I can say that is not download error. New version of AAW uses new additional malware detecting technics so it can be more slower on old computers. So i can propose you turn additional options off in antivirus and see if your computer start work faster. You can choose between computer speed and safety. Please try this - open your antivirus, click "Home" button, leave "On" mode only for "Antivirus& Antispyware", "Real-Time Protection" , "Safe Browsing". Restart your system and see if it will work faster. If not we can try to find another way. 0 -
LS Artem You are dead right it isn't funny! Thank you so much for explaing those abbreviations I have made note of them.
I lowered the settings to Lowest as Cecilia suggested and all was going great for about 2 hours maybe three, but then my computer started to slow up and eventually froze. I was in the middle of bidding for something I have wanted for ages, and typical-my computrer froze and I couldn't bid. UGH! I definately think now there was a bug in that download. I am not running the scan and my computer is running slow. It really is disgraceful that I cannot get a technician to sort this out. Its not my fault at all. My computer might be old but it runs as good as new, I take good care of it, now its rubbish all because of that download! I don't know what to do? I am scared there was a bug in the download and now my computer is maybe infected. Also what if I get a bug because I can't run the scan? I have had two replies from Lavasoft support, ridiculous asking me two questions, each a day apart! BOTH of which I had already given answers to in my many e-mails! Why doesn't the guy read them? I shouldn't have this hassle because of a faulty product I bought in good faith. The LEAST they should do is FIX IT! Its ruined my computer that download. I am now getting very angry.0 -
Thank you I will try that now. However if I do, will it compromise my PC security? Also, I do not wish to pay for something that I cannot use to its full effect. Does doing this switch off some parts of the security in this new edition? If it does there is no point in having it.
On another point, please can you help with the this.... I used the licence activation key to activate the product when I made the purchase. I received a window saying "Congratulations you have activated Ad Aware ( or words to that effect. I though that was it. However a few hours later whilst in that info menu I clicked on *activate* again just to check that my product WAS STILL activated and I could put the key in as many times as I wished! One would think having done it once it would not allow one to do it again?
One of the two questions I was asked by the support people was had I activated it? I said I had, but that it allowed me to do it numerous times. For instance when I pasted the key into the "box" you would think it would stay there but once I receive the message that it is activated, if I open it again, the box is empty, allowing me to do it again. Do you understand me?
The guy from the support sent me a NEW key, I did it again with the NEW key (because they had disabled the first one) and the same thing occured again SO! I do not know if my product licence registration is activated or not, I have asked them numerous times and nobody has answered at all. It really is a disgrace! I have heard no more from General support just the two e-mails, one asking me to re-activate the licence with the new key, and next day another e-mail asking me if I had any other antivirus which I haven't.. I then posted the whole thing again on the page that cecelia mentions above, and I have had no reply from them neither.
I made a mistake before in saying the icon had disappeared from the tray at the bottom near the clock, but it Has NOT.
Thanks for your help so far. I am tearing my hair out!0
