I was able to use my aol aim
buddy list until I installed ad aware.
What can I do to be able to use it again?
I am able to type in my in box but I can't see what others are typing

Sorry to here that you are having problems but sad to say that by installing Ad-aware SE will not have done any thing to your AOL AIM settings.
Did you remove any items after scanning with Ad-aware if so I recommend that you restore the quarantined items but before you restore them please open Ad-aware and click on the settings tab (The Gear icon) then click on the Tweak button on the left hand side then un-Tick (un-check) the "Delete quarantined objects after restoring" then click the proceed button.
now restoree the items you have quarantined and then use the WebUpDate
to make sure that you have the latest Definition file ans scan doing a "Full Scan" and then post your logfile here by using the Add-Reply Feature .
As Logs are stored in :
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-aware\Logs\.
An easy way to get there is to
click Start,
click Run
And type in and press ENTER: %appdata%
then click Lavasoft
then Ad-Aware
and then Logs.
scroll down to find the latest one that you have
(by date & time)
and open it right Click select all
copy and then paste the contents of it here.
(Make sure that all of your Logfile has been posted, sometimes it will require two post's to get it all)
I recommend that you use the WebUpDate just before you scan that way you will always be up to date.
(note The Application Data is a hidden folder, so you will need to show hidden files and folders
and for Windows 98/ME users your logs are stored in
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\ ) by default.

Actually, if Softomate (or parts of it) was removed by Ad-Aware SE, then that could cause AOL/AIM to stop functioning properly.

Trisa,
Ad-aware will not remove anything unless told to do so by you, So if as I said you have removed any items ie:Quarantined any items .
Then please try as I asked in my reply to you
I recommend that you restore the quarantined items but before you restore them please open Ad-aware and click on the settings tab (The Gear icon) then click on the Tweak button on the left hand side then un-Tick (un-check) the "Delete quarantined objects after restoring" then click the proceed button.
once you have done that you now have to restore the items that you put into quarantine so click on "Open quarantine list" then tick (Check) all the items you have and click restore.
after doing that run a new "Full Scan" and then post your logfile here by using the Add-Reply Feature .
As Logs are stored in :
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-aware\Logs\.
An easy way to get there is to
click Start,
click Run
And type in and press ENTER: %appdata%
then click Lavasoft
then Ad-Aware
and then Logs.
