Installed AdAware 11 (free) and windows security center tray icon is gone.
After installing Ad-Aware 11 (free) and activating Real-time Protection, I've lost the Windows Security Center icon in the system tray area. The center opens from control panel, no problem, and shows all protection is on. This is a Windows XP sp3 system.
Thanks.

Hi prowler3,
Do you see all icons in system tray or do you have an arrow you have to click on first?
Since you manually activated Real-time Protection, I think Ad-Aware installed in compatible mode. Do you have another antivirus program installed (or maybe not fully uninstalled) or did you select compatible install during the installation?
Have you restarted the computer after activating Real-time Protection?

Hi Cecilia. I see all icons in the system tray. I do have an update though. When I reboot my XP system, I do get the Windows Security Center icon...until Ad-Aware 11 completes it's start-up. At that point the icon disappears. I now think this may be normal behavior? As long as all 3 items that WSC monitors (Automatic Updates, Windows Firewall and an installed and working Antivirus program) are turned on and operational, perhaps the icon goes away? In other words it only appears if any of the 3 items are not turned on.
During install Ad-Aware notified me that it had an issue with installing when Malwarebytes was present. I believe I did install in compatability mode as I recall Ad-Aware saying it would now be the "second line of protection" (or something similar). I did do a full uninstall of Malwarebytes after that. How can I verify that Ad-Aware is not running in compatible mode, and if it is, how do I change it to make it my primary anti-virus protection?
Thanks for any help.

Hi prowler3,
I haven't used XP in many years, so I checked with Lavasoft and you're right, it's normal that you only see the Security Center icon when it wants to report something.
Yes, that was a compatibility mode installation. Since you activated Real-Time Protection (changing it from compatible mode to full mode), it's now fully protecting your computer.
You're welcome

The user installed AdAware 11 (basket random) and enabled its real-time protection. This caused the Windows Security Center icon to disappear from the system tray.
