    Hi Binell,

Let us see what Ad-Aware parts that are running in your computer.

    1. Please, collect logs and other information by following the instructions in http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33638-collect-logs-for-troubleshooting/ .

    2. Save DDS to your desktop: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr

Double-click on the DDS tool to run it.

When finished, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

Save them to your desktop and paste the content of DDS.txt into your answer (no need for Attach.txt now).

My contact person at Lavasoft has read your logs and she can see that the uninstallation failed and parts of Ad-Aware wasn't uninstalled. Those parts disturb a new installation.

The attached fix will bring back Ad-Aware to Control Panel and you can uninstall it. Before installing Ad-Aware again, please let me check that everything of Ad-Aware is gone by attaching a new DDS.txt.

Please download the attached file and save it on your desktop.

Right-click it and select to extract its file.

Move the extracted AdAwareUpdater_win32_11.1.5152.0.msi to the folder C:\.

    Start a command prompt:

Start menu - All programs - Accessories - Command Prompt

Enter these commands (end each one with Enter):

    cd \

    msiexec /I AdAwareUpdater_win32_11.1.5152.0.msi INSTALLDIR_ROOT="c:\\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus"

    P.S.

Please, remember that programs as RegistryBooster and DriverTuner can destroy things.

    Note!

The attached file and the instructions are only for 32 bit XP. If used with other Windows, it might destroy something.

    Thanks for all logs

I can see that you still have some drivers from Ad-Aware 10. Please follow the instruction in this post to remove them:

    http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33747-problem-with-activation-service-unavailable-window/#entry143764

I'll come back later when I have read more of the logs.

I am using windows xp so you know. I tried the first step at the command prompt typing SC stop gfibto and others. The first one was successful sc delete gfibto. The next one, sc stop gfiark gave me the following message [sC] ControlService FAILED 1062: The service has not been started. So I stopped.

Should I go ahead and try the next fix you posted?

After that error message you can enter the sc delete gfiark command.

Please, continue with post #6 after that command.

    Thanks, Binell!

Sorry, there are several items left. Some that belongs to Ad-Aware 9 or 10 but are dated after the date of Ad-Aware 11. Did you try to install Ad-Aware 9 or 10 the 16th of January but installed version 11 in December?

I think it's to much for you to clean it manually, let us use a program instead.

Please, download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it on the desktop: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST.exe

    Start the FRST program.

Read the disclaimer and click Yes to accept it.
    Click Scan button.
When done, FRST will make a log file, called FRST.txt, on the desktop.

Please, copy its content and past it into your reply.

    Thanks for the logs.

Lavasoft asks if you allow them to connect to your computer to try to first remove everything of Ad-Aware and then install the latest Ad-Aware. You'll see everything they do, and you'll be able to stop them and communicate with them. If you accept it, please send me your email address in a PM. Lavasoft will respond in another PM and later on send you a file by email.

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. Cannot install (could not create process) and cannot uninstall. Even tried the standalone installer, same error.

Do you agree with Lavasoft that your issue is solved, Binell?

    Hi,

Thank you for the quick response. I cannot uninstall it because it's not listed in the add-remove software list. When I try to install (web installer or full installer) I get "could not create process". I have also disabled Avast untill reboot but I still keep getting the same error message about not being able to create process. Also there is a gray Adaware icon in my tray and when I doulble click it says 'service unavailable'. Even terminating the process using Comodo Killswitch does not allow me to install Adaware.

    Hi dariovolaric,

According to the logs your last action was to try to install Ad-Aware, please try to uninstall Ad-Aware and collect a new set of logs, and tell us any error messages you get. Or do you mean that you can't uninstall since Ad-Aware isn't listed in Control Panel?

Please, make sure that Avast doesn't block the installation and uninstallation of Ad-Aware, e.g. by disabling Avast real-time protection and turning off its firewall (if paid version with firewall).

    Hi,

    You're welcome

I understand that's impossible to uninstall then.

The gray icon is there since parts of Ad-Aware are installed but not everything. I'll contact Lavasoft again.

    Hi Bucknastay,

Do you have Kingsoft antivirus program installed?

It might be a conflict between that program and Ad-Aware, or maybe it's Spybot Search & Destroy..

I'll inform my contact person at Lavasoft.

To everyone, don't start deleting files when you want to uninstall Ad-Aware, you will only end up with a total mess.

I faced the same problem while trying to install ad-aware due to an unrelated BSOD in the middle of the first install. This thread helped me solve the problem, just wanted to say that I used a different command to be able to run the installer:

    msiexec /uninstall AdAwareUpdater_x64_11.2.5952.0.msi

P.S.: sorry for bumping a somewhat old thread, just thought this could be useful to someone

    @ everyone:

Please, note that it's important to select "restore", and then uninstall Ad-Aware from Control Panel. If the msi file is used for uninstallation, only one of seven pieces of Ad-Aware will be uninstalled.
