Install/Uninstall will not work, gets "Reboot required"
I have the free version of the program and am running it on Windows 7. The version I have is 11.1.5152.0.
I repeatedly got a popup insisting that I download a critical update.
I downloaded the update, ran the installer, all seemed fine, but I continued to get the popup. I did the same thing again. Same result.
When I looked, the old version of the program was still installed, not the new one I downloaded.
I decided to manually uninstall the old program and then install the new one. However, that seems to be impossible.
When I use Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a Program to try to uninstall, I get a popup telling me I need to reboot the system. No other options are given. I can either reboot or close the window. I have rebooted. Several times. I still can't uninstall the program.
How do I get rid of it?

I have the same problem with the free version. Just curious -- why can the solution not be posted? It seems to be coming up quite often.
Thanks and regards,

I cannot uninstall Ad-Aware. I am getting the "reboot required' message. Any suggestions? It's clashing with Kaspersky.

I created this account because I am getting to the point of wanting to throw my computer out the window after the mistake of downloading Ad-aware 11.
Like other users, I continually received a message that my Ad-aware was out of date, so I "updated" it on Oct 6, 2014. It took a few days, but now the apparent conflicts with Firefox and Norton (I opted to have it NOT conflict with Norton) have figuratively tied the circuits up in my desktop.
Naturally, I tried to UNINSTALL Ad-aware. It can't be uninstalled; why? If so, where are the magical instructions for doing so? I see other users have gotten interminable "reboot" errors and messages. I can't even get to that point.
Can someone please point me in a direction to get this program off my machine?
I love Ad-aware for years, but when they tried to do more than what they were really good at, anti-malware, each successive verson of the program just seemed to bog my machine(s) down more. The complete lack of hands-on features in version 11 is weird; I can't tell that the program is doing anything but chewing up harddrive space and memory.

Which version of Norton do you have?
Do you mean that you can't find Ad-Aware in the Control Panel's list of installed programs, that nothing happens when you select to uninstall Ad-Aware or something else, when you write that your Ad-Aware can't be uninstalled?
Please, collect logs and other information by following the instructions in http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33638-collect-logs-for-troubleshooting/ to let Lavasoft investigate your issues.
When you have answered, I'll move your posts to a new topic since this topic is for those with "reboot required" message.0 -

I have sent a PM to you, too.
I don't think the "reboot required" message has anything to do with Kaspersky's antivirus program.0 -

I am glad to see this is a known issue, but why all the secrecy on the fix? I'm afraid I need it as well. Currently running Ad-Aware free 11.3.6321.0 and asks for update. Won't update or uninstall, instead it just asks for a reboot.

I don't know why Lavasoft has decided as they have, but I know that it's important for an antivirus company to always consider if something can be misused by those that write virus and other malware.0 -
You're welcomeThe fix worked great, thank you. After seeing what it was, I understand why they would choose to keep it quiet. Secret is safe with me.
