Error Uploading New Definitions
my definitions were 111 days old and I was unable to download new ones. I kept getting the 5% error. I tried to uninstall Ad-Aware SE Personal and was unable to the window came back stating that some file was missing. Next I went to the support pages for this problem and downloaded the new Ad-Aware SE and began the instal. The instal window claimed that it uninstalled the old version and installed this newer version and my definitions were now only 24 days old. So.... now that I followed the instruction on your very confusing support topic page, I'm still getting an 5% error uploading definitions so what's next? you support is really really bad and I would most likley tell as many people as possible not to waste money on your software.

I, too, have been getting the same 5% error message for days and this is the first time in years that I have not been able to keep my definitions up to date. I figured maybe there was a problem with the site, but I see no other notices.
I have not been able to get an update on definitions for a couple of weeks now. I get the same error message too. I have never had this issue before either. Can anyone out there help us???

TonyP0,
Always uninstall the current version/program before installing the new one - relying on the built-in uninstaller often leads to a botched installation.
Try unistalling again, then deleting any left over files/folders from (the default path) C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE (amend if installed to a diffent path). Then reinstall the new patched version.

As advised by lav101 above, a direct link for the patched (free) Personal version is here: http://download.lavasoft.com/personal/aawsepersonal.exe
(NB: If your update stalls at another point than at 5 %, your problem stems from another issue.
See http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=1336 )
There is also a (long) Topic on the subject here: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=8059

I am getting variations of this error. Everything was working fine until 4 or 5 weeks ago, and suddenly I started receiving download errors. Sometimes it would terminate at 65%, sometimes it only goes to 35%, sometimes it goes to 96% and errors out. The really odd part is that my Search & Destroy is now locking up at "WWW.COOLWeb" and my Windows Update no longer works either.
Is there a separate thread that might answer these problems or am I in the right place?
I have uninstalled all these programs including Ad-Aware SE at least 8 times each and removed all info including from the Registry and that hasn't solved the problem.

Okay, I downloaded the http://download.lavasoft.com/personal/aawsepersonal.exe
version after uninstalling the version I had and it worked! It's now updating just fine. Thanks!

I too kept getting the 5% error so I purchased the SE PLUS update with two-year support hoping that would solve me problem, but it hasn't. If I follow the advice here and uninstall my present program and install the new edition, will that affect (e.g. uninstall) my Ad-Watch program?

Hi goalie,
Ad-Watch is the real-time monitor built into the licensed Ad-Aware SE Plus & Pro versions, so yes, it would be uninstalled.
However, it will be reinstalled with the patched version. Please make a note of any personalised settings that you may have made, as these would have to be reset with the fresh install.

Spike
