Please Help, "VirusProtect" Infection

Hello,

I posted a previous topic 4 days ago, but don't see a reply, so not sure if I did something wrong (I tried to follow the directions exactly... but I've never posted on these help of message boards before, so I may have done something wrong). And I promise I don't want to be a pest, but I'm about ready to kill my computer. The link to my previous post (now on page 3) is:

Since that post, I've been continuing to run scans (Norton, AdAware, Spybot,SmitFraudFix, HiJackThis), change settings (Norton, IE, Windows Security), etc, but am still having problems. The blinking VirusProtect icon has not shown back up, but the computer still is acting strange and I'm convinced I still have not gotten rid of VirusProtect. IE7 is very unstable and does not run javascripts all the time (? I don't really know what that means, but I get a lot of errors about java and javascripts not being found?). I have played around with the settings until all hours of the night to no avail. Redirect links do not work... the page just stays the same even though it "clicks" when I click on the link. I NIS 2007 (hate it ) and sometimes the security checker can't find the antivirus portion because of the javascript error? Had none of these problems before VirusProtect infection.

I'm at my wit's end and am about to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. Everyone is telling me to be very careful before I do that, but I don't know what else to do. The computer is acting bizarre; I don't trust it to do anything really important for fear it's compromised, and I'm sleep deprived and cross-eyed from checking and unchecking little setting boxes in 100s of combinations to try to save the thing!

Sorry for sounding so desperate, but that's where I'm at. Any suggestions (including throwing the computer out the window) would be welcome!
